2.13        Annual Membership

Annual memberships represent the best value memberships and offer significant savings when compared to the equivalent Direct Debit membership paid for in full over a period of 12 months.

2.13.1    Purchase, Fees and Charges

Annual memberships may be purchased online via    www.nusportcentral.com. Annual membership may also be purchased in person at either Sport Central or Coach Lane Sport Centre. Payment must be made in full by either cash or credit/debit card before any use of sport facilities or services takes place.

2.13.2    Membership Term

Student Annual membership runs from 1st September to 31st August of the following year in all cases irrespective of when the purchase takes place. Non student membership runs for 12 months from the date of purchase.

2.13.3    Cancellation

Annual membership may only be cancelled in exceptional circumstances. In the event of a requirement to cancel an Annual Membership which you believe is due to exceptional circumstances, please write to The University of Northumbria at Newcastle Sport Sales Manager outlining the reasons for cancellation. This is completely at the discretion of the Northumbria University Sport Sales Manager. Memberships cannot be cancelled based on a customer’s level of use.

2.14      Monthly Direct Debit Membership 

Monthly membership paid by Direct Debit is offered for the following membership products; Platinum, Fitness, Swim, Fitness & Swim, Coach Lane.

2.14.1    Purchase, Fees and Charges

Monthly membership paid by Direct Debit may be purchased online via www.nusportcentral.com Monthly membership may also be purchased in person at either Sport Central or Coach Lane Sport Centre.

Direct Debit payments will be collected from your account on the 1st of each month or the nearest working day after that date and relate to the month ahead. When purchasing Direct Debit membership, a pro-rata payment will be required for the amount that relates to the time between the membership contract being entered into and the first Direct Debit collection date. If purchasing online, this amount must be paid for by Credit or Debit Card. Payment may also be made in cash if purchasing in person at Sport Central or Coach Lane. (example A).

If the pro-rate fee remains unpaid it will be collected by DD along with the first month’s fee.

Please note however that any membership contracts entered into after the 15th of the month will be liable for a longer pro-rata payment as it will not be possible due to the processing time required to collect on the 1st of the following month (example B) .

Example A: If a membership contract were entered into on the 10th November, a pro-rata payment for the period 10th November to the 30th November would be payable. The first Direct Debit deduction would take place on the 1st December and relate to the month of December.

Example B: If a membership contract were entered into on the 16th November, a pro-rata payment for the period 16th November to the 31st December would be payable as the deadline for processing would have been missed. The first Direct Debit deduction would take place on the 1st January and relate to the month of January.

2.14.2    Membership Term

Monthly membership is offered on a minimum 3 month Direct Debit contract period plus any initial period for which a pro-rata payment is required before first collection. You may not cancel your membership in this period other than in accordance with section 2.14.4

Once you have completed the minimum term, your membership will automatically be renewed on a monthly basis at the prevailing rate until you provide us with notice of cancellation as per 2.14.5. You will be informed of any price increase as outlined in section 4.0

2.14.3    Cancellation by Us

We reserve the right to cancel or suspend your membership in any of the following circumstances :

1. If you commit a serious or repeated breach of the conditions outlined in this document.

2. If any part of the membership fee remains unpaid 14 days after its due date for payment

3. If you provide us with details you know to be false when applying for membership.

4. If there are insufficient funds in your account. If we are unable to make a collection due to insufficient funds in your account, your membership with Northumbria University Sport will be temporarily suspended and access to our facilities denied. An upfront payment for the month in question will be required to unfreeze your membership and reinstate access rights. Northumbria University Sport does not accept liability for any bank charges incurred if there are insufficient funds in your account to cover our monthly Direct Debit collection.

5. The University of Northumbria at Newcastle is not responsible for any bank fees or changes incurred if subsequent attempt to collect monies owed are unsuccessful. Please contact the Sales Manager if you experience financial difficulty and require assistance.

2.14.4    Cancellation by you within the minimum term

You may only cancel your membership within the minimum term in the following circumstances:

1. If the provisions within the type of membership are not delivered by Northumbria University Sport.

2. If we significantly reduce the opening times or the facilities available at Sport Central or Coach Lane appropriate to the membership option taken and a suitable, alternative provision cannot be accommodated.

3. We close Sport Central or Coach Lane for a period of over 4 weeks for refurbishment with no alternative service offered.

4. You move more than one hour away from Sport Central as measured by Multi-Map, proof such as a utility bill will be required

5. You have been made redundant. Proof of employment and redundancy will be required.

6. Change in your personal circumstances such as serious injury or death of a close family member.

If you have cancelled on the basis of the above in agreement with Northumbria University Sport, we may refund any fees we have collected relating to the current membership month. This will be at the discretion of the Sales Manager.

2.14.5    Cancellation by you after completion of the minimum term

To cancel your membership after completion of the minimum term, we require one month’s notice by the following method;

1. Complete a Membership Cancellation Form

2. On receipt of the form, we will then cancel your membership from the next Direct Debit transaction date. However please note that if cancellation occurs after the 15th of any given month, a Direct Debit will proceed on the 1st day of the following month and will allow access to the facilities as per membership type up to the last day of said month.

Example A – Membership Cancellation Form is received on the 12th January after the minimum term has been reached. Membership will be cancelled from 1st February.

Example B - Membership Cancellation Form is received on the 21st January after the minimum term has been reached. A Direct Debit will be deducted in the normal way on the 1st February giving access to facilities and services for the month of February. Membership will be cancelled from the 1st March.

3. If a Direct Debit mandate is cancelled directly with the bank after the 15th of any given month preventing collection on the 1st of the following month, membership will be immediately cancelled and you will be liable for any bank charges incurred or a £30 administration fee in addition to the unpaid fees and any other monies owed on your account.

4. If the debt on a member’s account has not been cleared by the next direct debit collection date, 2 months’ fees will be collected at that point.

2.14.6     Membership is not transferable

Membership is not transferable to any other individual under  any circumstances. An infringement charge of £10 will be applied to a members account if found to be abusing their membership in any way. Any subsequent repeat occurrences may result in immediate cancellation of the membership. In this instance, no refund will be due for any unspent membership term.

2.14.7    We reserve the right to change the Membership Options.

We reserve the right to change the Membership Options. We will write to you a minimum of 28 days before any change is implemented by either mail or email to inform you of any such changes from which you will have the option to continue, change or cancel your membership.

We reserve the right that in the instance we have written to you and informed you of any changes and not heard from you to transfer your membership to the most similar product even if it incurs an increase in charges.

2.15       Summer Membership

2.15.1   The Summer Membership offer is based on the Complete    Swim and Fitness package. This entitles the purchaser to access the same products, services and facilities at Sport Central and Coach Lane, as outlined in the Complete Swim and Fitness level of membership.

2.15.2    The Summer membership price is determined by the month membership is taken out and must be paid in full at the time of joining.

2.15.3     All memberships purchased within the Summer Membership Offer expire at close of business on the 31st August 2012, regardless of the start date of the membership.

2.15.4     The Summer Membership Offer is open to new members only. Only those who have previously held a membership at Sport Central that has expired by 1 month or more prior to the launch date of the Summer Membership Offer will be able to purchase a Summer Membership.
